City of Saint John concluded my Future fossil work is in the LANDFILL!
Turns out there was water damage in the building that affected the small Geopark extended tourist exhibit, When the room was cleared for repairs a clean up crew was called , but the person calling never went to the site to see what needed to be cleaned.
I was told some hung in a hallway, which should have been safe. It was fired clay, it would have survived, plus my name and phone number was on every piece.
I miss the small tablets that the International Geopark committee liked and saw in my studio.
Some of my questions couldn’t be answered because of staff turnover. Mostly I just needed to know for sure. It’s like a small death to lose three years of work. I had received a NB Art grant for it. I loved the challenge.
I have been assured a new policy is being developed to ensure problems with art in their care is looked after properly. The city is also creating a database of all the art currently contained in city properties and the owner responsible for it.
